Sustainability
Zero waste – a lofty goal for any company, but particularly challenging for a company like ES3 where the input is controlled by the customers: manufacturers and retailers. ES3 has never shied away from a challenge and is tackling waste elimination head on.
The first step is identifying and quantifying waste streams. From product waste to energy usage, ES3 is looking for sustainable, efficient solutions. With product waste, for example, ES3 works to eliminate root causes such as:
- Damage: ES3 works with manufacturers to help eliminate inbound damage caused by packaging, loading, or carrier issues. Additionally, ES3 works to minimize warehouse damage through the use of automation. ES3 has installed automation that inserts a pallet support board whenever there is concern that a pallet may not be strong enough to support the weight of the product in ES3’s 110’ racking system.
- Rotation: ES3’s Warehouse Management System (WMS) and automation ensures that all product is properly rotated. This reduces product waste due to shell-life challenges. The web-based, real-time tracking and reporting tools allow manufacturers to view inventory that is nearing expiration so that it can be sold or donated.
- Returns: The combination of ES3’s WMS, well designed processes, automation, and personal accountability helps ES3 maintain inventory and selection accuracy well above industry standards. This accuracy reduces returns and fewer returns means less waste.
ES3 is passionate about efficiency. To be efficient we must first eliminate waste. That’s our commitment to you, to our community, to our families, and to ourselves.
